Key to the species

Founded on: Wilcox, J. (1967): New species and a key to the species of Parataracticus Cole. - Journal of the Kansas Entomological Society 40: 13-16; Manhattan - Lawrence. [amended]

1 Abdomen and legs all or largely black. lateral margins of abdominal segments 1-6 and posterior fascia on 2-4 interrupted by one-fifth width of abdomen, gray pollinose. Disc of scutellum gray pollinose, posterior margin bare with 6-7 yellowish bristles. Length 5-7 mm . . . . . Parataracticus niger Martin, 1955 [CA, MEX, BCF]  
- Abdomen and legs yellowish red. 2

2 Humeri, intermediate areas, postalar calli and a central posterior spot of scutum, shining black. Abdominal segments 1 and 4-6 laterally and posterior fascia on 2-4 interrpted by one-third width of abdomen, white pollinose. Disc of scutellum gray pollinose, posterior margin bare with 7 whitish bristles. Length 6 mm . . . . . Parataracticus melanderi Wilcox, 1967 [AZ, TX]  
- Humeri and mesonotum pollinose, postalar calli shining brown or reddish. 3
