Key to the species

Founded on: Wilcox, J. (1966): New species and keys to the species of Ablautus Loew and Omniablautus Pritchard (Diptera: Asilidae). - The Canadian Entomologist 98: 673-682; Ottawa. [amended]

1 Pleura entirely pollinose. Abdomen of male, and at least segments 1-4 of female, largely pollinose. 2
- Pleura in part bare of pollen. Abdomen of female lergely bare of pollen. 3

2 Scutum entirely pollinose. Abdominal segments 1-5 of male entirely, and segments 1-4 of female except for two anterior bare spots on segments 3-4, gray pollinose. Legs yellowish red, tips of the tibiae and the tarsomeres brownish. Face at antennae subequal to width of one eye. Length 5-8 mm . . . . . Omninablautus arenosus Pritchard, 1935 [NM, AZ]  
- Humeri, siedes of scutum and postalar callosities, shinig black. Abdominal segments 1-7 of male and 1-6 of female, gray pollinose, segments 1-6 or 7 with a central and segments 2-6 or 7 with lateral bare spots. Legs brownish to black, femora and tibiae reddish basally. Face at antennae about two-thirds width of one eye. Length 6-9 mm . . . . . Omninablautus nigronotum (Wilcox, 1935) [OR, CA, NV, UT, ID]  

3 Legs and abdomen yellowish red. Pollinose fascia on abdominal segments 2-4 entire or nearly so. Anterior intermediate area of scutum pollinose. Posterior margin of scutellum narrowly shining black. Length 6 mm . . . . . Omninablautus tolandi (Wilcox, 1966) [CA, AZ]  
- Legs black. Abdominal segments 1 and 2 largely black, segment 2 apically and 3-7 yellowish red, segment 8 brown. Anterior intermediate area of scutum shining black and confluent with posterior area. Broad posterior margin of scutellum bare of pollen. Length 5 mm . . . . .
